Autodesk VRED & NVIDIA RTX Power Accurate Real-Time Raytracing for Automotive Visualization

At SIGGRAPH 2019, Autodesk is showcasing the latest technology preview for Autodesk VRED 3D visualization and digital prototyping software for automotive designers. The new development taps into NVIDIA RTX technology for GPU raytracing and AI-powered acceleration to perform accurate real-time rendering.

The compatibility between Autodesk VRED and NVIDIA RTX is an important milestone in perfecting the digital review processes of the automotive and transportation industry. Combining NVIDIA’s AI-accelerated denoise technology with VRED’s scalable raytracing technology, users can now achieve noise-free, interactive, full global illumination in real-time – on either a GPU- or CPU-based rendering engine.

This workflow delivers immediate visual feedback to designers and engineers, with optimal interplay between a digital prototype and different variables in the environment, like light, materials, viewing angle and shadows.

This means that designers can now see how a vehicle’s aesthetics will interact with environments. It is especially critical for design and engineering reviews, gap analysis, perceived quality reviews, reflection studies, ambient lighting for interior, light design and beyond, helping to ensure that automotive prototypes are meeting requirements of the different disciplines before finalizing a design.

With raytracing previously limited to the CPU, VRED’s technology preview also provides a first look at how GPUs can be leveraged to support the high demands of automotive customers in the future.

PNY Technologies (booth #1103)

Accurate real-time rendering of the Mark Zero, the upcoming electric sports vehicle from Swiss-based manufacturer Piëch Automotive, will be demonstrated with VRED running on a 10x GPU RTX server throughout the conference.

NVIDIA (booth #1313)

A tech preview of VRED will show NVIDIA OptiX 7.0 for the first time, showing physically accurate RTX-accelerated ray tracing of Nissan’s GT-R50, a million-dollar limited-edition supercar. The demo runs on an Asus E900 deskside system with four NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 GPUs.
